Marco Tinessa's Ognostro Rosso is a 2022 Aglianico from Campania. After harvest, the grapes rest for a day or two in a refrigerated room, then are de-stemmed and pressed. The wine is raised in a combination of tank and clay amphorae. Marco does not like the taste of barriques, and his production is too small for the big barrels historically used for Taurasi. Nothing is added during fermentation or vinification: no selected yeasts, no sulfur, no enzymes. A bit of sulfur dioxide goes in at bottling if needed.
"O'gnostro" is the Neapolitan dialect word for wine and literally means "ink." Marco is not from a winemaking family. He came to wine as a hobby, visiting well-known winemakers and collecting as many bottles as he could. His admiration for 1960s and 1970s Taurasi, and for the early natural wine movement in France, led him to start O'gnostro. The wine comes from a twenty-five year old vineyard in Montemarano, which Marco considers the best area of Taurasi.
