Pascal Janvier's Cuvée du Rosier is a red wine from the Coteaux du Loir appellation in the Loire Valley, France. It is made from Pineau d'Aunis, a lighter-bodied and elegant indigenous red grape, grown on 25-year-old vines in clay and sand soils. The vineyards are farmed using lutte raisonnée.
Pascal Janvier never planned to be a vigneron. He trained as a butcher, then at thirty switched to studying winegrowing in Amboise. With his wife Dominique, he rents sixty-six parcels totaling nine hectares in the Val du Loir, the most northerly and coldest part of the Loire region, and farms them entirely themselves. Their soils mix clay, limestone, sand and flint, and are planted mostly to Chenin Blanc. Their work is helping revive the small appellation of Jasnières and the nearby Coteaux du Loir.
