This 2022 Chardonnay from the North Fork of Long Island, New York, is made with minimalist winemaking. The fruit comes from Paumanok's vineyard in Aquebogue, planted in 2014 on sandy, well-drained soils. Select ripe clusters were hand harvested and whole cluster pressed. The juice fermented spontaneously, both alcoholic and malolactic, in a French oak puncheon and a steel barrel, with only a judicious amount of sulfites added. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (91 points) describes pear, citrus and melon scents with subtle toasty-leesy notes, and a creamy mid-palate leading to a long, harmonious finish.
Paumanok is an estate winery founded in 1983 on the North Fork of Long Island and run by the Massoud family. Charles and Ursula Massoud started as growers, then built their winery in 1990. Their son Kareem is now winemaker. Their 80 acres of vineyards include New York's only Chenin Blanc.
