René Bouvier Fixin Crais de Chêne is a 2022 red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir in the Fixin appellation.
The Bouvier family has owned vineyards in Marsannay, at the northern edge of the Côte d'Or, for four generations. The estate now covers about 40 acres across six villages. Bernard Bouvier, René's son, made his first vintage in 1986 and combines the thinking of earlier generations with modern vinification and vineyard practices. Chemical treatments are banned and yields are kept low. The estate aims to make one wine per plot, so each lieu-dit shows its own character. Their 26 wines range from Bourgogne to Grand Cru, including Charmes-Chambertin and Echezeaux from vines averaging 50 years old, with some as old as 80. Wines age for a long time in vats, and harvesting a plot may be paused for a few days to let the grapes ripen further.
