Riecine Chianti Classico is a Sangiovese red from the Chianti Classico appellation in Tuscany, Italy. This is the 2024 vintage.
Riecine is in Gaiole in Chianti, 60 km southeast of Florence and 35 km northeast of Siena. Church archives from 1112 A.D. record the wine farm, which belonged to a nearby monastery until the 20th century. John Dunkley, an Englishman, and his Italian wife Palmina Abbagnano bought the original 1.5 hectares from the Badia a Coltibuono monastery in 1971, restored the old stone villa, and replanted the vines. Their first Chianti Classico, the 1973, was released in 1975. Dunkley held that Cabernet had no place in Riecine's vineyards, and the estate has long been known as a Sangiovese specialist. Since 2011 the family-owned winery has been led by Lana Frank.
