Riecine Chianti Classico Riserva is a Sangiovese red from Chianti Classico in Tuscany, Italy. It is warm and broad on the palate, with bold cherry and blackberry fruit. Lighter background notes of toasted nut and mild spice lead into a smooth, lengthy finish.
Riecine is in Gaiole in Chianti, 60 km southeast of Florence and 35 km northeast of Siena. Church archives from 1112 A.D. record the wine farm, then owned by a nearby monastery. John Dunkley, an Englishman, and his Italian wife Palmina Abbagnano acquired the original 1.5 hectares in 1971 and released their first Chianti Classico, the 1973, in 1975. Dunkley held that Cabernet had no place in Riecine's vineyards. Since 2011 the estate has been family-owned and led by Lana Frank, and it has long been known as a Sangiovese specialist.
