Riecine di Riecine Rosso is a 2022 Sangiovese red from Tuscany, bottled under the Toscana designation. It comes from Riecine, a winery long associated with Sangiovese.
Riecine sits in the community of Gaiole in Chianti, 60 km south-east of Florence and 35 km north-east of Siena. Church archives from 1112 A.D. record the wine farm, which belonged to a nearby monastery until the 20th century. Englishman John Dunkley and his Italian wife Palmina Abbagnano acquired the original 1.5 hectares in 1971 from the monastery of Badia a Coltibuono. They restored the old stone villa and replanted the vines, and released their first Chianti Classico, the 1973, in 1975. Dunkley held that Cabernet had no place in Riecine's vineyards. Since 2011 the estate has been family-owned and led by Lana Frank.
