Named after the majestic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, Simonsig Wine Estate is situated in the famous Stellenbosch wine region just east of Cape Town. Since French Huguenot Jacques Malan first set foot in the Western Cape in 1688, the Malan family's wine knowledge has grown over many generations, solidifying them as one of the leading fine wine producers in South Africa. Founded in 1971 on true Cape hospitality and strong family values, Simonsig is now helmed by the 3rd generation on this abundant Stellenbosch family-owned farm. These elements are intertwined at Simonsig, where the late Frans Malan, a pioneer of the South African wine industry and superior wine craftsperson, introduced numerous Simonsig โfirsts,โ cementing the estateโs legacy in South African wine history. Frans produced the first bottle of the much-loved, groundbreaking Kaapse Vonkel sparkling wine, South Africaสผs first Methode Cap Classique made in the traditional method. He is also honored for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, the first of its kind in the country. Today, his wine heritage lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and his grandchildren, Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael. Simonsig also firmly believes in environmental sustainability, which is reflected in their implementation of the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) certification. IPW complies with international wine industry environmental sustainability wine production criteria. At the Simonsig estate, they have installed solar panels to produce renewable energy, created a water catchment system to collect water and avoid using harmful chemicals in lieu of specific insects for natural pest control.
