The 2022 inaugural Vin de Soif is one of our more exciting wines of this vintage, and one which, after careful and thoughtful planning in the cellar and at blending, is able to simply be enjoyed as a lighter, chillable red, which is easily quaffable and enjoyable. All the grapes from this inaugural bottling come from, as does all the fruit in this vintage, Threemile Vineyard in The Dalles on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, and while delicious standing on their own, the blend of the juice truly comes together magically. The fruit for this wine comes from blocks sitting between 1300-1500 ft elevation on Cherryhill Silt Loam soils. The grapes were all formed sustainably and using the most responsible farming practices, and in the cellar we used a lighter touch on the winemaking - as is our style across the board - with minimal pumpovers of the red wines, and light extraction of both the white and red grapes. This blend consists mainly of Syrah (38%) which provides structure and depth, Roussanne (35%) which yields lightness and acidity, and Grenache (23%) that brings in the lifted high-tone aromatics, while touches of Albarino (2%), Marsanne (1%) and Clairette (1%) round out the blend. We picked most of the grapes for the blend on September 27th, and the final wine checks in at 13.5% alc. We have been enjoying this wine chilled with tacos, and have drank far too much of it at our all- too-frequent (frozen) pizza nights!
