This 2024 Pinot Noir comes from Sojeau Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon. The nose shows sweet red and black cherries layered with sarsaparilla, raw cocoa, and tobacco. The palate is concentrated, with bolete mushrooms, black plums, violets, and roses, and delicate yet gripping tannins lead to a vibrant, intensely mineral finish.
Walter Scott was launched by Ken and his partner, a sommelier and educator, after more than 30 combined years in the Oregon wine industry. Production has grown to 3,500 cases, and they say they are done growing. They make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, aiming for clean, correct wines with tension and grace that reflect each vineyard site. Fermentation is with native yeast, all wines go through full malolactic, and they are fermented dry and aged in oak. Alcohol targets run from 12.8% to 13.5%.
