The wrath of Juno sent Aeneas wandering the Mediterranean in Vergilโs Aeneid. For the ancient Romans, ira or wrath, was a tool of a god, an unstoppable anger driven by forces greater than man. One can argue that we see such fury in both the might of nature and the passion of art. Wrath appears in the edgy power of Robert Plantโs voice and the raw wail of Eric Claptonโs guitar. It is frozen into Jackson Pollockโs violent splatters of paint. Wrath is in the wall of maritime fog that rolls into the Salinas Valley and the relentless afternoon winds that scream through our grape trellises. Wrath wines represent a nexus of nature and an unbridled passion for winemaking. Welcome to Wrath. Wrath produces Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. Formerly known as San Saba, Michael Thomas and his mother Barbara Thomas Lemmon bought the winery in 2007 from his step-father and renamed it Wrath Wines. Since then, Michael has begun an aggressive vineyard rejuvenation program, replanting large sections of the estate vineyard with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Falanghina and Syrah. Michael directs a vineyard/winemaking team that includes winemaker Sabrine Rodems, associate winemaker Kyle Pearsall and grower Steve McIntyre. The 72 acre San Saba estate vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Falangina, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc on Arroyo gravelly loam and light layers of Hanford gravelly sandy loam soils. The San Saba estate vineyard is certified sustainable by the CCVT (Central Coast Vineyard Team).
